Go Green At This Charming, Eco-Friendly Hotel In The Maldives

When flying into Malé International Airport, also known as Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, you may be surprised that the airport is not located in Malé, but instead on Hulhulé Island. When planning your luxurious vacation to the Maldives Islands, if you choose to stay in Malé you will need to speak with your hotel about a ferry or boat shuttle to the island. However, you there are also many beautiful beaches and comfortable hotels offered on the island of Hulhumalé where you can easily take a taxi or a shuttle provided by your hotel across the bridge. This also ensures a quick arrival back at the airport for your departure. Since looking for a hotel can be rather tough, given that there are various options, I would like to recommend the Coconut Tree Hotel located on Hulhuvilla Beach on Hulhumalé.

The Coconut Tree Hulhuvilla Beach is a unique, eco-friendly hotel located right on the water in a prime location. The hotel has a lovely ambiance, radiating with vibrant hues of oranges and greens. The white background really makes these colors pop, and you feel like you’ve been submerged in a tropical paradise. What makes this hotel unique is the fact that the lobby area is in an opened outdoor area where you will always feel as if you’re lounging on the beach while reclining in the lobby.

Right next to the lobby area is another outdoor area with sand and a hanging swing where you can sit and admire the beautiful ocean views. Additionally, the ocean is just a few steps away making it easy to take that nightly stroll or watch the sunset. The staff members are very hospitable and will make sure to provide assistance in any way they can. If you are particularly fond of water activities, be sure to ask about the tour packages that include snorkeling, fishing, diving, windsurfing, and even a relaxing day of canoeing.

You have four options to choose from when booking your accommodation: the Comfort Room, the Holiday Room, the Family Room, and the Sky Suite. The calming green continues throughout the hotel appearing as accents in your room, along with sky blue, creams, and soft warming shades of orange. You’ll notice right away how comfortable the bed is, and appreciate that there are many pillows making it easy to recline while reading a book or watching television. There is also a desk that can double as a business area, or a vanity because of the large mirror against the wall!

You’ll also really like the chaise lounge that is next to the bed; perfect for those traveling with three people because this can be used as an extra bed. There is a table and chairs outside on the balcony where you can enjoy the views of the ocean or the surrounding city. It’s also a great place to plan your itinerary or to do a little bit of travel journaling. There is also a safe inside your room where you can stow away any small personal belongings or valuables. The restrooms are private and have a Western-style toilet, spacious sink, and a nice sized shower with hot water provided 24 hours a day. The toiletries are of high quality, and you are provided with body wash, lotion, and hand soap: just make sure to bring your own shampoo and conditioner.

When you get hungry, the Coconut Tree offers a barbecue pit where you can grill out while admiring the beautiful clear ocean views. There is also a little café on the rooftop, where you can enjoy breakfast, while admiring the neighborhood shops down below. Breakfast is set up as a buffet where you will choose from chicken sausages, baked beans, grilled mushrooms, bell peppers, papaya, toast with jam, and coffee or tea. The staff is very helpful, and if you’d like them to make you scrambled eggs or an omelet just ask. However, if you prefer to eat in the comfort of your room, they will be happy to bring your meal up to you.

The Coconut Tree does offer a complimentary airport shuttle, and the Malé International Airport is roughly a 10 to 15-minute drive away. Check-in does start at 2 pm, yet if you know you’ll be arriving earlier, just give a phone call to the receptionist and they will try to accommodate you with express check-in. If you happen to be traveling with family as well as children, you will be happy to know that children ages 3 through 12 are able to stay free if you do not need an extra bed. This is also the perfect hotel for business personnel or for couples who are seeking a honeymoon destination or a retreat for any special occasion.
