It had just finished storming, pretty badly too, when I arrived at the Holiday Village Resort in downtown Bengaluru, and they had been hit with some major power outages. After I had checked it, I was walked over to an adorable row of suites tucked away and surrounded by nature. It was extremely cozy and tall stalks of bamboo created privacy for each room.
I was on the first floor, however, there are more rooms on the top that you can choose from that are also really well hidden. Actually, I didn’t even notice the rooms above until the next day when I was walking back from breakfast. Unfortunately, in my first room the T.V and the A.C were not working, which could have easily been caused by the power outages brought by the storm.
Once I was settled into another room though, there was another minor mishap with an electrical outlet. There’s no tip-toeing around the situation, the outlet just sort of, malfunctioned… I could tell something was wrong when I flipped the switch for the overhead fan and the lights began to flicker. My intuition had kicked in, so I was in the process of gathering my things when this happened; just in case I had to switch rooms again. It was an outlet behind the television, where a stream of smoke began to pour into the room.
I grabbed my belongings and opened the door, finding one of the waiters outside approaching my room with a room service menu. I quickly informed him of the situation and he called the manager over right away. He was extremely apologetic, making sure I was ok while he quickly had his staff ensuring my next room was working, safe, and ready to go.
The manager was very caring and concerned about the situation, and customer service like this is what I value when I’m staying at a hotel or resort. Never once did he seem to interrogate, assuming it must have been something I had done, he never acted like he did not care about my well-being. No, he was on top of things, having his staff check the outlets in the next room as well as the previous one to see what could have caused the problem.
He gave me his personal phone number just in case I wanted to by-pass the staff at the front desk and directly contact him, and was very genuinely upset about the complications. You could tell that something like this had never happened before, and an instance like this will definitely not change my mind about going back. I look forward to visiting them again began because the resort is truly amazing, and you have everything you need all in one place!
You will be pleasantly surprised by how cozy and well decorated the rooms are! They have that spa essence about them; making you feel instantly relaxed. There is a separate seating area for you to lounge with a good book or enjoy a cup of coffee. The television is visible from all areas in the room and this is perfect if you are having a family trip and want to gather everyone for movie night! Another neat thing I noticed was there is a door adjoining two rooms together. You do have the option to lock this door, but it’s a really neat feature, again if you’re on a family vacation, perhaps with the kids, and want to open this up.
Two pairs of slippers are also provided in the rooms to keep your feet warm against the hardwood floors. The bathrooms are kept clean and tidy and inside there is an area with healthy growing plants! The resort provides all your essential toiletries, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, and even a shaving kit! Without a doubt you will surely want to relax with a hot bath, and if you need more shampoo or lotions a quick phone call to the reception is all it takes.
There is a really cute towel animal on the bed that has been shaped like an elephant! They also provide two bottles of Aquafina water and a bowl of fresh fruit, filled with apples, oranges, and bananas, once you arrive. There is a mini refrigerator in each of the rooms allowing you to keep drinks or food cold. You can relax on the bed and watch television which provides an array of channels to choose from in both Hindi and English. There are different shows and movies to choose from in the ‘menu’ so you don’t have to channel surf to find what you want to watch.
The bedding is soft against your skin, and the mattress is very comfortable, allowing for you to easily get a good night of sleep! The windows in the rooms are covered by privacy drapes and do not allow much sunlight to escape through. You’ll love this if you’re like me and just can’t sleep well if there is a lot of light in the room. In the mornings, room service will drop by your room and bring you tea or coffee along with the daily newspaper. Outside each room there is a private patio area (surrounded by the bamboo stalks) where you can enjoy your cup of morning brew while catching up on current events.
You can also choose to walk over to the dining area, which is super cozy and enjoy a meal. There are plenty of seating arrangements offering a unique style of couches or royal looking benches with throw pillows. This is how the Kings and Queens used to eat! The food available is delicious, and you are able to choose from a wide variety of Indian dishes, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
In fact, this is where I had some of the best paneer tikka! The waiter asked me if I wanted something non-spicy and I said, “Oh no.. the spicier the better!” and his recommendation for the Tiranga Paneer Tikka was on point! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not an overbearing spice that will have you feeling like you need to guzzle down a couple of bottles of water. The paneer was savory, creamy, and packed just the right amount of heat from the flavors. There were bell peppers and tomatoes that had been tossed on the grill adding color and some crunch to the dish. Mint chutney came on the side and was perfect to balance the heat from the paneer tikka!
The menu is very affordable ranging from ₹75 to ₹450 (USD 1.14 – 6.88), this particular appetizer was ₹178 (USD 2.72), and the portion was very filling. Along with your meal, you can enjoy a cocktail, beer, or glass of wine. The price for drinks ranges from ₹55 to ₹260 (USD .84 – 3.97). You’ll really enjoy the soft jazz and classical music that this outdoor restaurant plays during breakfast and dinner. Afterwards, you can stroll through the gardens before heading back to your room for the night.
During the day you have an abundance of activities to choose from, or you can lounge in one of the many hanging chairs are set up around the premises. A really big pool sits in the middle of the resort and the staff is always working to keep it clean for you to enjoy. The resort’s staff are friendly and always there to help you when you need it. Even the gatekeepers at the entrance are friendly and offer any help with directions if you choose to explore the surrounding area.
You can easily take a taxi to the Bannerghatta Zoo and National Park, which is 19 km (12 miles) away. Other than that, you have everything you need to truly enjoy your home away from home. Holiday Village Resort is a place where you can relax and de-stress, without worrying about life beyond the gates. I really do mean this, and it would be wise to leave your laptop at home, due to the fact that there is no wi-fi. There is an upside to this because your time spent with your loved ones are increased, allowing you to just simply have a great time together! The Holiday Village Resort is perfect for staycations and I definitely would recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors and being surrounded by nature!
